The Dutch mountains (April fool 2012)

A few moths ago, the widest in circulation newspaper in the Netherlands, Het Parool announced the formulation of an authority responsible to create the so much needed mountains in North Holland. The authority BergAutoriteit would asses such a request and come up with a proposal.

Last week they finally came up with a plan which was accepted unanimously by the Dutch government. The new mountain range will be created roughly between the cities of Utrecht and the Hague. The peak altitude will be 1200m.

The project is estimated to be completed around 2023 and will cost €2.000.000.000 creating a merely 2300 jobs, not only in the Netherlands but also in countries that will provide necessary resources. The rocks and soil required for such a titanium project will come from several locations: The old coal mines in south of Belgium, the remains of the new Amsterdam metro, several other metros around the European continent and of course the North Sea. BergAutoriteit examined also an offer from South African government to transfer soil and rocks from remainders of the gold mines in Transvaal.
As a result of this project the North Holland landscape will be transformed radically, as shown on the pictures released by the authority. It is estimated, though, that millions of tourists will flock the country as it will be now included in all the maps of winter skiing destinations, something all Dutch have long dreamt about and surely will be proud of.

Well, there is nothing left but wish them good luck on this huge project :-)
